About Our Church

First United Church of Christ was founded in 1745 and we have a rich history beginning even before our independence as a nation was declared. First U.C.C.has been a pillar in the Easton ever since. First U.C.C. is a diverse community of believers brought together by the transforming grace of Jesus Christ.[ImageHere]

For over two hundred fifty years, the First United Church of Christ of Easton has gathered persons from the greater Easton/Phillipsburg area for worship at its historic sanctuary.  For that same period of time, the Church has sent its members into the community to serve its neighbors in need.  Organized as the German Reformed Congregation in the Forks of the Delaware in 1745, the congregation became part of the United Church of Christ in 1957, a national denomination of some 1.6 million members in the Reformed and Congregational families of Protestant Churches.

The congregation gathers an economically and socially diverse membership from the city of Easton, the town of Phillipsburg, and the surrounding area.  While this diversity is one of our strengths, there is also a shared commitment to Christ, to the Word of God proclaimed in Scripture, and to the mission of the Church in the world.  Preaching and teaching are Biblically based, seeking to relate faith to the concerns of everyday life.  We are committed to helping our children, youth, and adults grow in their faith in order to better serve their families, their community, and their world.

First Church is proud of its heritage and of the role it has played in the life of the Easton area for over two centuries.  Still committed to a future to which God is calling us, we will continue to live out the mission described in our United Church of Christ Statement of Faith,
Accepting the cost and joy of discipleship,
Being Christ’s servants in the service of others,
Proclaiming the gospel to all the world,
    Resisting the powers of evil,
Sharing in Christ’s baptism and eating at his table,
Joining Christ in his passion and victory!

There is a Welcome Waiting for you!

Who We Are

The members and friends of First U.C.C. welcome all persons, regardless of ethnic heritage, sexual orientation, religious backgrounds, etc.

  • We believe that each person is unique and valuable.
  • We believe that each person is on a spiritual journey, and that each of us is at a different stage of that journey.
  • We believe that small changes can make a big difference, as we lend our service to our community, and minister to those in need.
  • We believe in supporting families as they grow within the warm environment of the church.
  • We believe that a church that brings God's Word to people in every situation, from all walks of life, helps them to grow in love and service to Our Creator and Lord.
  • We believe in the power of peace, and work for non-violent solutions to local, national, and international problems.

Our Goals

At First Church, our goal is to glorify Christ by building strong, united families equipped for His service. We encourage our families to learn, worship, fellowship and serve together.

No matter how or where we serve Jesus Christ, the people of our congregaton are focused on joyfully doing God’s work. We live out our call to mission and ministry by engaging in ministry with the poor, combating diseases of poverty by improving health globally, creating new places for new people and renewing existing congregations, and developing principled Christian leaders.
